Mechanism of Action
5-Amino-1MQ is a selective inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an enzyme overexpressed in adipose tissue. NNMT inhibition increases intracellular NAD+ availability, enhances SIRT1 activity, promotes fatty acid oxidation, and reduces adipocyte size.
Key Research Findings
- Reduced adipocyte size by ~30% in diet-induced obesity models without affecting food intake
- Reduced body weight gain and total body fat while maintaining lean mass
- Increased whole-body energy expenditure without changes in food intake or activity
